Barnsley - Postal Staff - BAR17

In 1920 a black marble plaque was unveiled in Barnsley Post Office, then on Regent Street, commemorating the men of the staff who fell in the war. 62 men enlisted, 38 came home in a fit condition, 16 were disabled and 8 lost their lives. That memorial has been lost. ------------------ The current memorial, in the Pitt Street parcel office, is wooden and also names the 4 men who lost their lives in WW2. http://www.barnsleywarmemorials.org.uk/2014/01/barnsley-main-post-office-barnsley.html ------------- If you are having trouble adding information to men in this Community on Lives of the First World War I would be happy to help. ----- Linda Hutton IWM Volunteer barnsleyhistorian@gmail.com
