Bluebirds: Canadian Nurses of WW1

This community was inspired by the Library and Archives Canada exhibit, "The Call to Duty: Canada's Nursing Sisters," which explores the lives of six women who served as nursing sisters during the First World War. The community is not limited to these six, however, and I am adding more women to the group as I find them. Canadian nurses were nicknamed bluebirds because of their blue dresses, accented by white aprons and sheer veils. When I've found them, however, I've also included Canadian nurses who for whatever reason served with other forces, and therefore wore a different uniform.
