'Q' Ship 'Cymric': 15 October 1918

The schooner Cymric was built in 1893 and was part of the merchant fleet running the South American trade route. She became a Q ship during the First World War and in October 1918 was responsible for the sinking of the British submarine J6. The crew mistook the submarine for the German U6. The subsequent Court of Enquiry were critical of the Cymric's senior officer but did not feel that he should be subject to court martial. This community remembers those aboard that fateful day.
