Barnsley - Men who fell during 3rd Battle of Ypres - including Passchendaele

Names of 219 Barnsley connected men who fell in Belgium during the period of the 3rd Battle of Ypres - 31 July 1917 to 10 Nov 1917, the latter stages of which are better known as Passchendaele (from 12 October) [ref: http://www.longlongtrail.co.uk/battles/battles-of-the-western-front-in-france-and-flanders/the-battles-of-ypres-1917-third-ypres/] and a possible 51 more who died in France or the UK during that period from wounds (to be checked). ------- It is generally very difficult to pinpoint in which battle 'other ranks' sustained their wounds and of course many died of these weeks and months later, however all Barnsley men and women who served in WW1 will eventually be remembered in the main Community here ---- https://livesofthefirstworldwar.org/community/49 ------- Initial data provided by the Barnsley War Memorials Project http://www.barnsleywarmemorials.org.uk/ ----------- Newspaper pictures with thanks to Barnsley Archives http://www.experience-barnsley.com/archives-and-discovery-centre ----- If you are having trouble adding information to men in this Community on Lives of the First World War I would be happy to help. ----- Linda Hutton IWM Volunteer barnsleyhistorian@gmail.com
