Berkhamsted School

Berkhamsted School was founded in 1541. Many old boys from the school served in WW1. The school grew to 500 pupils in 1916 but in Nov 1914 the school magazine published the names of 360 Old Boys already serving. 230 names are inscribed on the ten panels of the school war memorial. Names are arranged in the year of death: 1914 (4); 1915 (46); 1916 (67); 1917 (55); 1918 (53); 1919 (4); 1920 (1). From using other lists of Old Boys, such as census records, I am already finding wardeaths not recorded on the memorial
